The Chairman of the Northern Provincial Road Passenger Transport Authority, Eng. S. Vimaleswaran, stated that special arrangements are being made to enable private buses operating in the Northern Province to obtain the required diesel through a QR (Quick Response) system at any fuel station.

Further commenting on this, he said:

Considering the current crisis situation, the government has introduced certain restrictions on fuel distribution. However, in order to ensure that public transport services continue without disruption, initial steps were taken to supply fuel to private buses only through fuel stations owned by the Sri Lanka Transport Board.

However, to avoid practical difficulties and for the convenience of private bus owners, the Authority is now making new arrangements to allow them to obtain fuel from any fuel station in the Northern Province.

Accordingly, based on the route permit of each private bus, the amount of fuel required for its round trip has been accurately estimated. Based on this calculation, the appropriate fuel allocation for each bus will be determined, and a special QR code will be issued to private bus owners.

Using this QR code, they will be able to obtain their allocated diesel without any interruption from any fuel station in the future, he further clarified.
