Dr. J. Vivekananthan, Chairman of the Northern Province Tourism Bureau, stated that the World Tourism Day celebration will be held grandly at Keeri Beach in Mannar, over three days on September 25, 26 and 27, with the aim of introducing the tourism resources of the Northern Province at the international level and further strengthening regional tourism and the local economy.
He stated that the three-day festival, organized by the Northern Province Tourism Bureau, has been arranged to introduce the natural resources, heritage, arts and cultural attractions of the Northern Province to domestic and international tourists.
He further stated that the event will feature exhibitions and sales events showcasing the traditional arts and cultural performances of the Northern Province, various beach sports involving the public, youth and tourists, traditional food varieties and seafood from Mannar District and local handicrafts.
Furthermore, he noted that newly completed tourism infrastructure development projects in the Mannar region will be introduced, while initiatives will also be undertaken to create new opportunities for local entrepreneurs and those engaged in the tourism sector.
Dr. J. Vivekananthan, Chairman of the Northern Province Tourism Bureau, also stated that this year’s World Tourism Day celebration will be held with the full cooperation of the Mannar District Secretariat, all Divisional Secretariats in Mannar District, all local authorities in Mannar and other stakeholders involved in the tourism sector.
